This is a very good question.... and not easy to answer. You have very carefully thought out all of your variables, that's for certain! Hmmm..... how about constructing an "arm shield"? A sort of "overhang" made from heavy paper or cardboard that was taped to the sides of the tank and hung over the water of the aquarium tank/container so that not only would your shadow not be seen, but even your arm reaching out wouldn't be seen. And even cover the sides of the tank if it's glass so that they don't see you on the sides too. Do you understand what I'm getting at?

first of all, science has DIS-proven the myth about the 3 second memory - any mythbusters fan would know that!
"Heather Joseph-Witham says the myth prevails because we want to think keeping the goldfish in the small bowl is not cruel. Professor George Barlow of Univ. of Calif. -Berkley says conditioned behavior does qualify as memory. Any task that can be taught to an animal and tested and completed later qualifies as memory."

about the shadow, if nothing else works, have a shadow continually cast over enough of an area for you to "hide" in.

First of this is impossible, goldfish have 3 second memories as proven by science.
If you want to stop your shadow. Put a light no top of the aquarium and turn off all other lights

Fish can't hear. They sense vibrations but don't hear sound like we do.
