Russo gets a bad reputation because he made himself the face of WCW just before it was sold. No one realizes that Kevin Nash, James J. Dillon, Ric Flair, and Hogan were the creative force that lead to WCW losing the ratings war to WWF to begin with. Russo came into a bad situation in WCW. He did the best he could with what he had. Sure, some of his stuff was hit and miss, but at least he had a plan with some direction. As for his run with WCW, he only had creative control from October 1999 through January 2000. Then he was subplanted by Kevin Sullivan and James J. Dillon. They got together and played politics backstage, something Russo is not good at. After 3 months of "Yappa Pie Indian Strap Matches" between Hogan and Luger, Russo was asked to come back with Bischoff. Bischoff had other plans of degrading the company so that he and a team of investors could buy it at a cheaper price. But, when the opportunity arose, AOL decided to pull the plug on the whole wrestling genre and would not give WCW its Nitro slot. Sure, Russo gave Arquette the title, but he did it under durress from AOL TIme-Warner's film distribution to try and promote that bomb of a movie "Ready to Rumble." Even he acknowledged that it was not time for WCW to introduce radical story lines because it had not recovered enough from the ratings bashing it was getting. He had to do it because the higher ups wanted to use Arquette in a major story line. The only thing I can see that RUsso is guilty of is not being able to play politics and kiss up to the wrestlers egoes.

As for his work in TNA, I don't see anything Russo has done that is any worse than what was in TNA before he got there. In fact, he has given other wrestlers like Robert Roode, gimmicks that the fans can actually react to. Unlike the WWE who has a face painted fat Samoan who pretends to not know English even though all the fans know he used to be in 3 minute warning.

Also, does anybody realize that he is not the only one behind TNA creatively? Jarrett is still in control and Dutch Mantel is his right hand man.

What has he done wrong? I remember when TNA had two guys dressed up as..."mushrooms". There is nothing Russo could do to TNA that is worse then that.
