If it's an air pump running a stone or a bubble curtain you could try putting a piece of sponge under the pump unit to cut down the vibration.
If it's the filter/pump inside the tank try putting it deeper down in the water.

Some brands are noisy. Cheap little overworked ones are the noisiest. Hagens are good pumps. Rena (except the little 50) are great pumps.
You might need a rebuild kit if it is worn out. About 1/4 of the price of replacing the pump.

Take out your pump an clean out your filter under warm water make sure you use a little brush to get rid of mould an left over fish food , then it will not make so much noise, just do this on regular times it works .

one of the reasons is the mechanical noise as suggested by "suspendo" another reason could be that your pump is standing on a wooden base or cupboard which acts as a sounding board which amplifies the sound, try placing a piece of sponge underneath the pump this will dampen
the noise

It's wearing out.
Inside, it has an electromagnet and an iron core. Once the rubber parts wear/expand, those metal parts begin to touch, causing that irritating noise. You can play games with it for a while, but eventually you'll have to replace it. I recommend going to an aqua flow type water pump instead.

have you cleaned the filter ? they need a lot of changing. is the air pump running ok, check the tubing for faults, if none of this, ask the shop where you got it from, for advice on what to do , it could be faulty. best of luck.

It's probably because it's turned up too much or you ahven't cleaned yours out because the waste of the fish and any loose plant particles got lodged up in there.
