Well, quarter horses are usually a good choice. They come in a huge range of sizes and colors and are usually fast. They are controllable and easy to work with. If you want a horse that is a little more free spirited, Arabians are beautiful horses to work with. They are graceful and have a very distinctive, refined head.
I think you'd probably like the quarter horse more.

There are fast, gentle, strong and willing horses of every breed, but personally, I would suggest a Quarter Horse. Overall, they have very even, willing temperaments, are the fastest horse in a quarter mile (hence the name Quarter horse), and are very strong and versatile horses. They are the most popular breed in the US for those very reasons. Good luck on finding yourself a horse.

A quarter horse is all that and more. And if you haven't noticed, all your answers have one thing in common...they all say quarter horse. They are a very very versatile breed. They are known for their speed and are extremely famous for their western events. Quarter horses are so good with rodeos because of their body shape. They are small but yet strong, which enables them to keep up with cattle well and rope and hold them. There are also a lot of quarter horses that strive in the english style too. There are a lot of quarter horse jumpers, of course they are taller than the traditional horse, but still have the (close to) same personality. They usually have a very calm temperment, but will easily get up and go when you even barely ask.

Try the quarter horses. They are really nice, but also Dutch Wormbloods are great in the show ring, and very willing, not like thoroughbred fast, but they do have a faster than most horses gait. Also Appendix Horses are good and loveable and most of the ones I have seen are really great in the show ring, have a fast gait and are really willing to please you.
1st try a Quarter Horse
2nd try a Dutch Wormblood
3rd try a Appendix horse. You can find horses that are for sale and any breed you want at www.dreamhorse.com

I think you should get an Arabain or a Quarter horse. Arabains are all of what you want and more they are very lovable and easy to get along with!! Quarter horses are a very strong breed of horse and make great first time horses that just about anyone can ride!! Please make sure that you do think VERY carefully about what kind of horse you get and the amount of training it has, if you are still a beginner rider get a horse that has a lot of experence with beginner riders and has a good mind. GOOD LUCK!!!

Quarter horses and thoroughbreds are the main breeds you should be looking at.
Thoroughbred's have...
*excessive stamina and energy
*great temperaments but can be very hyper and sometimes frisky/naughty!
*very playful tendencies... they like to play around in the pasture which often leads to broken halters, blankets etc... haha.
Quarter Horses....
*tend to be less playful and fiesty then the thoroughbred but then again there can always be a naughty horse in any breed-- QH's just tend to be great for beginners.
*They are little balls of energy and dont tire out too easily, they can make great trail horses if that is what you are looking for because they are calmer and less hyperactive!
*Quarter Horses tend to be less strong then thoroughbreds as they are smaller built, but if you can get a good muscle build on them they can really hold their own!
