How many fish can I put into a tank 18x10x10 inches, there are already two goldfish and a scavenger in it?

And what types of fish can I put together with these?

None. Goldfish are huge producers of waste, and need at least ten gallons apiece. You are already hitting your upper limit. If they were not goldfish, then you could have more fish.

It sounds like you have a 10 or 15 gallon tank. You need to return the scavenger to the pet store if you can. Goldfish can only be kept with other goldfish. Goldfish secrete high amounts of ammonia from their pores. The ammonia will probably kill the scavenger. That tank is really too small for two goldfish. One goldfish can grow up to 8 inches long. The two of them will not have very much space in that tank if you keep both of them. One goldfish really needs about 15 gallons of water. Some goldfish can grow up to 12 inches long. Goldfish do get big and they can cause a tank to become very dirty if you don't have a good filter, but I think they make the best pets. I like them more than any of the other kinds of fish.

Your tank sounds small. I've heard a rule of thumb is 20Gal. for the first goldfish and 10Gal. for each additional goldfish.

Goldfish are cold water fishes, i.e. room temp. is probably fine, (between 68 & 74 degrees, if my memory serves me).

Your not suppost to mix goldfish with tropical fish because of the difference in water temps.

I have successfully raised 1 goldfish in a community tank, but he probably didn't like it.

Goldfish are very pretty fish but they're also very dirty. It sounds like you have reached your limit. However, I'm hard headed so I would probably put in more, especially if my fish were small.

But, I do mysteriously loose a fish here & there.

depending on how big your fish get the rule of thumb is for every fish you need 3 inchs so a tank your size should hold 5 small fish or 2 large fish.
Keep goldfish only with goldfish they are cool water fish and don't do well with tropical (warm water) fish.ie anglels, neons, barbs.... don't mix them! Goldfish carry parisites that your tropical fish can get!
Also goldfish can get pretty big and you don't want to keep comets with bubble eyes(moors, celestials) ect. the bubble eyes are not as aggressive as "regular" goldfish and won't get enough to eat. The other fish may also pick on the "bubbles" incressing the rish of infections or death.
hope that helps!

Its completely stocked now. No more. Take the scavenger back. Goldfish with goldfish only. The pleco has a nasty habbit of munching on slime coats at night! I know you won't believe me until you have a scaleless goldfish one morning.

ok so 18 x 10 x 10 = 1800. so 1800 divided by 231 = 7.79 gallons. so u could get about 1 - 8 inches of fish in there.

I can't really tell how many gallons that is either but it sounds like it's 7.9 something gallons according to this:

But it seems that you've already exceeded your limit with the goldfish which grow to be really big if you've been to pet store (oh wait you have=))

yep, i have to go with the other poster who mentioned that goldfish are very dirty fishies. I'm sorry, but it's true. I can speak from experience. :) So I don't know why he got a "bad answer" (I'm new to this) but I'm definitely going to stand my ground on this. Look on any fish enthusiast website. :)

You can put as many as you have gallons. For example you may put 1 inch of fish per 1 gallon. Meaning about 8 goldfish in your tank. You can try putting small guppies or other passive fish like koi or small cichlids like electric blue.
