The hard drive for my laptop is corrupted, i was able to rescue the stuff on it, but when we try to format it with the windows XP disk, it get's to 100% and says it won't work, we used a Maxtor floppy before hand to do a complete format, and it worked, but nothing else.

Any suggestions on what to do to repair it or where i can find a good deal on 40-80 GB hard drive for my laptop (in Windsor, Ontario, Canada)?

I recommend you try out GParted, the liveCdrom partitioner, similar to PM-8, but, this is FREE! If the URL is truncated, google.com for "GParted".

Or, 'Damn Small Linux', that includes tools.

Just bought a new warranteed Seagate Momentus #980815A, 2.5 inch 80 Gb 5400 rpm ATA 6 drive, for $69.99 at Newegg.com with free shipping.

It arrived in four days, via Ground UPS, to my door here in Florida.

This is a replacement OEM drive, so comes to you bare, with no jumper or cable, or instructions. Being a computer engineer, that is no problem for me. YMMV.

Dell? Gateway? You might find a new one cheaper. Or check phone book for local computer store.
