i would like to get rid of anything related to my past marriage and since I am selling my wedding ring, I don't want my marriage certificate anyway. Is there any reason I need to keep it?

I have no children and the wedding ring isn't gold. It an unusual ring with a tiny diamond and the band is stainless steel. It was created by an artist.

I think you should keep it as part of your personal papers of record. I mean it was in fact a part of your life, and you never know if you would need it for whatever reason regardless of how much you want to forget about the marriage and seeing ot as a bad memory item.

The fact remains it is/was a vital record, and I'd at least wait 5 years minimum afterwards to be rid of it. You never know if/when Tax or other far out and misunderstood questions could appear.

I would keep it, as i have kept mine with my personal papers, i am currently changing back to my madien name and need it for that as well, for it to be done correctly, i also kept the wedding albums for the children's sake, but tossed all the wedding cards, and any thing like cards etc i got from him, the wedding rings etc i also still have, maybe i will melt em down or give to my daughter when shes a bit older who knows.....

LOL My ex got custody of ours in the divorce. I told him the paper it was written on was only good for wiping one's buttocks. My wedding set got sold. I wasn't wearing it so why should it take up room in my jewlery case?

This all depends on how long you were married and if you have any children together. If you were married at least ten years, you can collect the ex-spouses social security benefits should they die.
