hermit crabs?

Question

why do hermit crabs climb on their cages?
i had 4 hermit crabs before and they did it and now i got a new one and he is climbing his cage now to .

what can i do to stop them from climbing

you probley cant stop them unless u get a glass cage cause i had hermit crabs with a glass cage and they didnt climb the cage

Why would you want to stop them from climbing? Hermit crabs climb trees in the wild. It is part of their nature to want to climb, and it is recommended that you provide them with branches from safe woods (http://www.epicureanhermit.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=141&Itemid=9), coconut huts, or cholla wood to allow them safe ways to get exercise within their tank. Because they are such climbers, be sure you have a secure screen and/or glass or plexiglass lid on the tank with gaps that are small enough to prevent the crabs from escaping.

i had 2 hermit crabs too , called crabby and hermi, lol.

my hermit crabs climbed on there cages too. I think they want to get out so i occassionally have HUGE shoeboxes, cut one side off each of them and connect them and tape them up so it becomes one huge shoebox. then i wud let my hermit crabs go aound there for a while.

Hermit crabs must be kept in a glass tank, they need heat and moisture to survive,they have gills like fish.They are not going to survive long in a wire cage.You need to get at least a 10 gallon glass tank about $10.,with a lid & heat lamp,sand or coconut fiber or some of both.They have to be kept at high 70's low 80's temp.& a humidity level of around 80%.They also need fresh & salt water,shells in larger sizes and shapes.Please do some research on hermit crabs!!!
