Because the media keeps telling them they are.
They will quote you numbers from polls they have gotten from the liberal media.
P.S. You are right about Hilary. I don't even think she will make it past April LOL.

look up the actual ratings and HOW many people actually listen to talk radio... you may want to do that before you start talking about how it "really represents America"
last time I looked about two million on average listened to Rush (and he had the highest ratings)... out of 300 million Americans...
is that really the mandate you seem to believe it is?
and I'm not sure Hillary has a chance either... but we should all remember... every Republcian I met said Dems didn't have a chance in the midterms too... may want to watch the "promises" there...
personally, I don't think either has a majority... I think they are very close and those in the middle make the difference...

Strictly, I can not answer your question, because it's a common right-wing logical fallacy on Y!A - the positing of an opinion as a fact in the form of a question.
Your error falls into any or all of the following categories:
Biased Sample
Begging the Question
Appeal to Belief

Guess what?
It doesn't matter if liberals are truly the majority or not--the results of November '06 are still the same.
So there is still a more liberal Congress---and if it's because the conservatives stayed home in droves---oh well.

I don't. Zealots on both sides tend to assume that there is a silent majority who agrees with them. In fact there are a substantial number of liberals, a substantial number of conservatives and a great fat bulk of people in the middle who are split down the middle or don't care about politics.
Of course if you happen to think that conservatives are a majority in this country your kidding yourself.

I will not listen to someone who supports the illiterate Dan Qualye
don't forget that Democrats took over the majority in governorships and state legislatures in 2006.
P.S. the hypocrite Newt Gingrich has NO chance in 2008

Does this really matter?
I mean, can we possibly be more immature?
What really matters is that our legislators get some freakin' work done that benefits the taxpayers.
Forget the Hillary bashing, the Obama bashing, the Bush bashing and freakin' grow up, will ya?
Sigh.
I forget. This is Yahoo. There's nobody at the door checking IDs. No bouncers.
Why should I even entertain expectations?

Only people who listen to Fox News believe that the 1% liberal minority is oppressing the 99% conservative majority.

Your thinking is a little twisted...the Conservatives are not a majority either...I think most people actually consider themselves somewhere in the middle (neither left or right)...I think it is people like you that have the ego problem and think they can think for everyone else.
