I live in the middle of the woods, and everyone I meet (online) lives about 2 hours away.

Any advice on successfully building a relationship from that distance?

Honestly, 2 hours is pretty easy. I live in Ohio and gave it a try with a guy in Georgia. Just too much distance, we are still good friends but unless one of us has a major life change, it will never work.

I dated another guy for 6 months that was 2 hours away. I really enjoyed it. The drives gave me time to relax and we visited each other twice a month. Beyond that....

free nights and weekends on the cell phone

yahoo instant messenger

skype

and the occasional long wordy e-mail

I was very satisfied with the amount of time that I was able to devote to the relationship. It did not work due to other reasons.

I've always had a problem with long-distance relationships because I am ridiculously needy! I crave constant reassurance.

The best advice I would give you, dear friend, is to write, call and email as often as possible in effort to get to know the man as well as is possible via those forms of communication. Try to get together as often as time/money permit because you will get to know the man's quirks and expressions -- this will help you appreciate his humor and turn of phrase more when you are only hearing or reading his words, sans a face.

Most of all, give it time, lots of time to ripen. You can't hurry love, no you'll just have to wait... Just give it time, no matter how long it takes.

LMAO!!!!!!!! Two hours? You call that "long distance?" Sheesh, I dated a woman for 5 years who lived that far away. We visited each other at least once a week. In the meantime we'd talk on the phone or via IM.

Right now I like someone who lives 4000 miles away. We're planning on visiting one another this summer. I talk to her every day for a couple hours. If you're truly meant to be with someone, distance should not be a factor. It's tough, yes, but it's soooo worth it!

Only two hours? Then you are lucky. ;-)

I've been in long distance relationships before. Usually I find sending the person e-mails, notes, cards, flowers, little gifts just to let them know I am thinking about them and to show my affection. That sort of thing. Talking on the phone is also a major plus because communication is very important in a relationship.

well, to me, 2 hours isn't very long distance!
I was in a long distance relationship before (I live in MO, she lives in NC), but we just couldn't make it work. a lot of it was her not being honest, but the distance made it all much more difficult. I know some people can make it work, but I wouldn't do it again.
but, 2 hours is drive-able! if you have to go by plane, THEN it's too far!

I have one and its so emotionally satisfying to know someone loves me and cares for me that much.

Its love at first click I tell you!

Oh and yes...how can I forget Skype

I got myself a skype local phone number and the person calls me from their cell phone even when they're not at home on the pc. It helps a lot.
