Are you sure you want to know?
Female genital cutting (FGC) refers to the excision or tissue removal of any part of the female genitalia for cultural, religious or other non-medical reasons. Female genital cutting is today mainly practiced in African countries.
"Mutilation" versus "Circumcision" versus "Cutting" Debate: Different terms are used to describe the act of female genital cutting, but regardless of the terminology the same practice is being referred to. Opponents of these practices use the term Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), whilst groups who support and practice this female ritual tend to use the term Female Circumcision (FC), which is also considered a euphemism. Advocates of male circumcision argue that the term "female circumcision" results in unwanted associations between the two practices, while genital integrity advocates might refer to all child genital cutting as mutilation.

As the last two writers wrote, the clithood only can be excised(which as the two writers wrote is quite different from cutting of the clitoris), although this causes the same loss of sensation for the exposed clitoris as male circumcision.
I certainly would not advise female circumcision

The answer is yes. There are three basic types of genital excision, although practices vary widely. In the first type, clitoridectomy, part or all of the clitoris is amputated, while in the second (often referred to as excision), both the clitoris and the labia minora are removed. Infibulation, the third type, is the most severe: After excision of the clitoris and the labia minora, the labia majora are cut or scraped away to create raw surfaces, which are held in contact until they heal, either by stitching the edges of the wound or by tying the legs together. As the wounds heal, scar tissue joins the labia and covers the urethra and most of the vaginal orifice, leaving an opening that may be as small as a matchstick for the passage of urine and menstrual blood.
Female circumcision, the partial or total cutting away of the external female genitalia, has been practiced for centuries in parts of Africa, generally as one element of a rite of passage preparing young girls for womanhood and marriage. Often performed without anesthetic under septic conditions by lay practitioners with little or no knowledge of human anatomy or medicine, female circumcision can cause death or permanent health problems as well as severe pain. Despite these grave risks, its practitioners look on it as an integral part of their cultural and ethnic identity, and some perceive it as a religious obligation.
Opponents of female genital cutting, however, emphasize that the practice is detrimental to women's health and well-being. Some consider female circumcision a ritualized form of child abuse and violence against women, a violation of human rights.

Oddly enough , Yes. Sometimes a female is born with what is called a " Hooded Clitoris ". Which simply means excessive skin is covering the clitoris. Surgical procedures are used to remove the excess skin , thus " circumcision "

Female circumcision refers to the removal of any part of the female genitalia. This practice can range from removing the clitoris, labia minora, labia majora, and any combination of the external genitalia.
With the most extreme form they cut everything away and sew the opening that remains shut.
There are HUGE cultural/ethical beliefs in regards to female circumcision.
A pretty straight forward and easy to read explanation is on wiki @:

In certain barbaric African or Muslim countries, they do practice female circumcision.
But what it actually consists of is removal of the clitoris, either partly or completely, and sometimes accompanied by sewing part or most of the vaginal opening shut.
It is a brutal and unnecessary act, usually performed in filthy huts without basic sterilization, and many little girls die from it. Those that don't are often cursed with horrible pain, and actual disfigurement.

This practice must be stopped!

Circumcision is the removal of a piece of skin from the penis.
Circumcision in women is IMPOSSIBLE
What has been CALLED "female circumcission" is clitoridectomy- a surgical procedure which removes the clitoris (which means also it makes pleasurable sex impossible). The equivalent procedure in men would be cutting off the whole of the penis.
The _so-called_ "female circumcission" is practiced in some societies and ranges from the simple removal of the clitoris to the total excision of the vulva.
The societies where this is practiced are extremely primitive and misogynic (religion is not the only factor), and this is done mainly in those societies where the life of the woman is considered worthless- simply because the death rate of this procedure is from 10 to 50%.

Yes! it is called female circumcision, performed mainly in the middle east, putting it rough and dry, a medicine type woman cuts out your clit and sews up your vagina, so you stay pure, when you want to have sex your husband rips it open then you go back to get it resown ... it sounds painful and scary and causes many deaths among middle eastern women and girls each year.

Yes, in many cultures, they remove the clitoris so you can't have much pleasure during sex. There are also some other nasty genital mutilations that are done to women.... Just look up female circumcision on yahoo. Freaky!

Yes , some Muslims still do this to their girls. In Somalia for example they do this at 12 years old.
It is a savage practise and should be stopped , just as circumcision for boys should be stopped .
