My brother and his wife recently got on WIC. We all know how it "works", but when they give you those vouchers does he have to use them all at once? i.e. buy all the juice, eggs, milk, cereal in one shopping trip? Or can he buy the juice one day (when he needs it) and the other things when he needs those... We all think WIC is kind of wasteful.

WIC WIC WIC I absolutely loved the wic program. It financially saved us so many times when we needed food items. You do not have to use them all at once but you do have to use them before they expire because each voucher has an expiration date on it. Don't forget to show the cashier your wic id card because a lot of times if you don't have it they won't let you get the food. Not all stores accept wic so check at the store before you shop. You can remain on the program up until your baby is 5 years old. And check this out, when your baby is born the program starts issuing vouchers with formula on it so you don't have to pay for the baby's milk!!! Anything that can and DOES help your child is never wasteful it is a blessing and formula is very expensive so you are going to be so thankful you applied. If you have any other questions about please ask me and I will answer you again. Take care

I just came back from getting some of my WIC. lol

I usually use one coupon a trip (depends on what i need that day or week) and use the other ones on smaller trips.

what ever is on one coupon has to be bought at that time. you cant split up one that may have 2 juices, eggs, gallon of milk, cheese etc. you either get it all at that time or forfeit the rest of the items.

The juice is non perishable. there are certain ones that you can only buy that are authorized (they are either canned or bottled) so you wont be able to waste them... you only get 1 dozen eggs at one time and of course cereal's and peanut butter last forever. (see the yellow thing that came in the sleeve) You get about 4 or 5 vouchers per month (depending on your family size)

Its not wasteful at all especially when you need the help of these items to feed your family. Even with formula... WIC paid for EVERYTHING for the formula one of my babies needed. her formula would have been 12 dollars a bottle and i would get 7 vouchers each month with 6 or 7 bottles of formula on it each month. it saves SO much money when you don't have the money to spend in the first place. if they qualified, they should be grateful and once they start to use it, they will see that those 30 dollars they may have spent on those few items really add up.

the only thing i have a problem with is when i have vouchers of 2 gal of milk on one ticket... that's the last ticket i always use (usually 2 milks and 2 juices on the ticket)

If its so wasteful, why did they sign up for it? its not mandatory

If the voucher has multiple items on it then you have to get em all at that one time or lose out on getting items because they will take the voucher. But as far as all the vouchers no you do not have to use them all at once but keep in mind that they do have an expiration date.
WIC is in no way wasteful. I used it with both my pregnancies (we make too much for me to use it this time around) and was greatful to have it. All the things you get from it can add up financially and if you bottle feed after the baby is born then you save SOOOO much because you get the formula for free and such so in my opinion it is in NO WAY wasteful!!!

wic gives you the amount of milk, cheese, eggs, cereal etc that you should be consuming in one month....seperated usually onto 3 vouchers per month. for instance my 4 year old gets a gallon and a half of milk on each one..thats 1 1/2 gallons approximately every 10 days..if she cant use that much milk in that time im not giving her enough milk. i end up not using all the milk i get so i dont get it at the store.....simply because i have 3 children and myself on the program and i get like 15 gallons a month if i get it all.....but if you dont get everything on the voucher you cant get it later......you only have to use one at a time though......the only family member i use them all at once for is my newborn a month worth of formula just keeps me from running out so fast.

You have to buy everything that's allowed on the voucher at once. If it's an item you don't plan to use, don't buy it. You don't get change back or credit for unused vouchers. If you think it's a waste, don't use the program.

You have to use everything on the voucher at once. You don't have to get things you don't want though. But they take the voucher.

You don't have to use all the vouchers at once - just get what you need at that time, they do expire though, so you must used them by the date they expire.

You have to get all the items on one voucher at one time. You can't just get what you want......As far as I know

You can buy it on separate trips, even at separate stores.
