I have a roomate that just moved out b/c she said the other roomates party to much. Now she will not pay her portion of the rent. She told me that there are roomate laws. Is this true?? Can she get out of paying her rent b/c she claims there is to much parting, if this goes to court??

Is she on the lease? That is just about all that matters.

Roomate laws? That is a new one on me.

Having much experience with bad roomates........it sounds like she's full of ****. Even if we pretend that there are such things as "roomate laws," they would have to be thoroughly documented on the lease. Then she would have to prove that there is "too much partying going on" which violates said laws, meaning there would have to be an amount of permitable partying dictated through your state legislation and the amount of partying taking place in your shared living quarters would have to be interpreted by a court. Since this seems like an awful waste of taxpayer money, not to mention time, I would venture to believe that she's a lying whore. However, if her name's not on a formal lease, there's really nothing you can do.
