You can't buy a star or a star name. All you can do is give people money to put your name in a book which has absolutely no value and is recognised by no-one. They're a scam!

Yep, it's a scam. Chances are, you're getting this for someone who's interested in astronomy, and they'll already know it's a scam.

I know someone who bought one a few years ago. They gave her a star that was 28th mag - Hubble couldn't have seen it, much less someone looking up. It was about 10000 times dimmer than the stars you see every night. Plus, it turned out it wasn't even a real star. I looked up the location in an astronomy star catalog - it didn't even exist. So don't waste your money on fake stars.

Christmas time would be a good time to get one off the top of the tree.
Have a look at your markets (in Aussie) they sell them there and there is a mag called Markets and fairs that have a range of stuff u can by and see when and where the markets are. The stars I am talking about hang up like Chinese lanterns.

dont actually buy one, just find one that you can find every time you look and name it after the person/ say that it is for them. the dad in the book "the glass castle" did this when they didnt have money for xmas presents and the girl could always look up and see her star and it would remind her of her dad, even when she was older.

The people selling stars don't own them to sell. It's just as much yours as their's or anyone's.

Just pick one you like, find out about it, design a certifcate in photoshop and print it out.
