Its about explorer Ferdinand Magellan.

Were there any harrowing incidents on board Ferdinand Magellan's ship during his voyage/journey>?

Also what does harrow or harrowing mean?

Harrowing means extremely unpleasant.
It was for Magellan- he was killed during the voyage.

A harrow is a square frame of wood with iron points stuck in the bottom. By dragging it with horses over a plowed field, one can break up clods of earth. It is a metaphor for a bad time. If someone dragged the frame over you, you would describe it as a harrowing experience.
