Buy small strawberry plants from a garden centre, woolies etc. They will be coming on sale in the next couple of weeks I should think.

Wait until at least the end of March, maybe even April if the weather is really cold, then plant out in rich soil in a farily sunny spot about 12 inches apart. Water after planting, make sure they never dry out over the summer. Protect from slugs by pouring sharp sand (this is just very gritty sand - available from B&Q from about £1.20 a sack) over the surface of the soil. If you have a lot of birds around your garden you may need to protect the berries as they grow. Use horticultural fleece or netting to cover the plants.

Strawberries produce their best fruit in their first and second years, after that they get a bit tired. Propagate your strawberries by cutting off the baby plants that grow on the long string-like shoots (runners) that the big plants send out and potting them up into small pots with good compost. They will be your producing plants for next year.

I think you have to relax and just let it happen. Or, discuss it with your partner and try to come to a consensus about what it is you both want from the strawberries. Raising it as an issue is bound to cause conflict. Its nothing to be ashamed about, though I am a little concerned about fingers turning green. If they are not growing in a months time, you may want to consider professional help from trained botanical therapists. Viagra wouldn't harm either.
