I told my boys when they started asking about tampons and stuff upon walking in on me "TAH DAH!" in the bathroom. They are 8 and 11 now, so this probably took place about the same time as your daughter's age - I told them that each month, my body makes a soft place for a baby to grow, and if there isn't one in there growing, then the old tissue needs to come out so there is a new soft place and this happens every month; thus the pads, etc. They were totally happy with the explanation and glad I wasn't hurt.

If she were to see the feminine products then I think you should tell her. Or she'll learn in school, we had sex education starting in 4th grade. Also you might want to consider if you started your period at a younger age then it's possible she might. I know someone whose daughter started her period when she was 8. She only needs to know the basics right now anyway. Good luck.

You should tell your daughter when she has it . Because my peoples moms tell them at the age range between 12-14. So tell her when she's becoming a young lady.

My mom spoke to me about it when I was 11. Of course, back then girls used to get their period when they were around 13 or 14 and we weren't exposed to the kind of filthy media girls are exposed to now. These days, girls start their periods even at 9 years old. I suggest you tell her when she is10 or 11. That way, you make sure that she doesn't see anything misleading about it on tv and get misconceptions about periods and that she is old enough to understand what is going on. Right now, she is still a child, let her enjoy her childhood a bit more.

I got mine when I was 10 and was scared to death because no one told me anything about it, so I would say before 10, my daughter is 5 and I have started telling her about what happens to your body in very simple terms

I have a 7 yr old daughter also. I already told her a little about it because she was with me when I had to buy some needs and asked why I needed it.

My mom told me when I was about that age... she just told me one day when i followed her to the bathroom. She showed me a pad and told me that it is just something that girls have that boys dont. She didnt say that it hurts or anything like that, she just showed me where she kept them and said that when the time was right, I would need them. She told me what I would see and that it was normal but that when it did happen, if I was at school, to tell a teacher.

Probably within the next year or two. Odds are she's seen your pads/tampons laying out in the bathroom. If she hasn't, leave them in plain sight and let her ask about them. Then go into a little more detail when she gets to be around 9... adding bits and pieces about the "birds and bees".

I would say about ten, that is usually around the age they start hearing about their period through school. You dont want to worry your daughter until its near the time for her to start.
