I have a 2003 Pontiac Grand Am with a 2.2L 4-cylinder engine. I don't care if I have to take things off (emission controls) I have a base knowledge of cars, so if you say I should increase/decrease the idle etc. I can do that. Thanks!!!

LOL... i have read all previous answers... To us Gearhead's more cubic inches is always better for many reasons. And all of us build the car around the motor.. However, you are probally asking because you are not in a situation to do so, With you your four banger.. you still have many options: It all depends on what kind of applications you want to run. Do you want to hang with the big boys(you will need to drop some serious cash..and yes you will be better off selling the car and using the profit towards a SB ford, chevy or mopar vehicle. but if your wanting a begging weekend warrior-always start with the components that will help out the larger modifications. Start with end and work your way up. Upgrade to a highperformance dual exhaust. Then find a header application for your vehicle, also it depends on if you want a turbo or supercharger. Next will be the intake (including air..K&N filter with the tube and upgraded throttle body.. all of these appliactions depends on your budget...expecially this one..start with a summit or jegs catalog. These catalogs are free and they can send you the one that fits your vehicle. you will also need to upgrade the computer system with a new software-you can get the ones that you can modify depending on your driving need or the ones that you set and stay(chip and module) new igntion system and wires. If you go with the the upgraded sparkplugs dont go more than two tiped and they can not be split..must be independent on spark. See how much your wanting to spend. The possiblities are endless.. I spent over 16k on my stang and still wasnt done yet. And always remember..FRIENDS DONT LET FRIENDS DRIVE STOCK.

Buy a car with a real engine. Sure, you can make the little engines act like they're big, but not for very long. Start with an older V=8 Chevy or Ford. Tons of speed parts are available for these engines, they'll run stronger, and they'll last a lot longer. Once you have the engine developed, you can buy a car to put it in.

There are many aftermarket performance parts available. I suggest getting a summit racing catalog. I dont suggest removing any emissions parts if you live in an area that does testing, it could trigger a sevice engine light to come on. One simple thing you can do is buy a K&N air filter. Good luck, I personally wouldnt waste my money on a 4 banger. Get some big Detroit iron.

Some auto stores that deal with sports and race cars can sell you a chip for the onboard computer that will increase performance.Maybe you wanna throw in a mild racing cam to boot.Have exhaust modified to dual exhaust.

you can do a lot of things, you can take out the catalytic convertor, you can change your spark plugs from single tips to dual or quad tips, you can by the Air intake booster call the Tornado( causes the air to whirlwind in adds HP), if you have a smog pump take that out, use higher octane gas, put gumout into you fuel once every 3-6 months it will clean out your fuel lines, injectors, etc. check your users manual for other things that you might be able to remove or replace
