Don't say anything. Be there for them if they need company or someone to talk to. Listen if they need to talk. Hold them if they need to cry. But nothing you can say will change anything. Just be a good friend.

You just need to tell him/her that you're there if they want to talk about anything, relieve some stress, or if they need a shoulder to cry on. Say that you're there to support them in this time of need, and to keep the good memories alive. I had the same problem last month when A close friend of mine, along with my cousin were murdered.

That's tough, you want to be there for them if they need you but you also want to give them space in case they just want to be alone. I would find a nice card for them and offer to take them out for dinner if they'd like to talk. Flowers are always a good idea too.
