I want to buy a pair of jeans for a girl I'm dating and I'm sure that she says she is "size 3 or 5 depending on the brand" but when I look online I see the following Sizing: 24=0, 25-26=2, 27=4, 28=6, 29=8, 30=8-10, 31=10, 32=12.

How does that translate? Any help is appreciated...

You're looking at a different range of sizes. The even numbers (2, 4, 6, 8, etc.) as opposed to the odd numbers (3, 5, 7, 9) THe odd number size range is usually in what's called Junior clothes. They are cut differently than the even size range (often called Misses). It's confusing, I know. The larger numbers, 24, 25, 26, refer to waist sizes, at least theoretically. I'd say buying jeans for someone else is a very tricky proposition. Sometimes two pairs of jeans of the same brand and style in the same size will fit differently. And how you like your jeans to fit is a very personal thing. Maybe you should think about jewelry, or a nice sweater, which you should be able to judge better by looking at it.

the numbers are the waist size and they corrospond to the size on the tag of the jeans. The reason there is no 3 or 5 is because it is going on a different system. If I were you, I'd go with a 4 or a 6.

not at all! pant sizing for juniors starts with 00 as the smallest size and goes up in odds(1, 3, 5, etc) as it gets bigger. Womens is the same except its evens not odds.

Women's sizes are only given in even numbers. Junior's sizing uses odd numbers. In women's, that translates to about a 4 or 6.
