I just wrote mine a few months ago and my induction ceremony is on Friday!

Anyway, what I did, since there was such a limited space to work with (how can you be expected to present a decent point of view in only one page!) was I kind of scrapped the traditional "five paragraph essay" format and just jumped right in to my point and my examples.

I didn't really have any sort of real introduction other than the fact that I established a point and talked about it in three paragraphs (short ones!). There's really no right or wrong way to go about writing the essay--just don't make it sound like it came out of a standardized box of essays! You don't want the boring intros and bodies and conclusions.

Besides, I don't think the essay REALLY counted. It was more of what was on the application! Good luck!

5 Paragraph Essay Format

This is only one method of organizing an essay.

Introductory paragraph

A. Catches the reader's interest

B. Gives brief background on your topic

C. Begins or ends with the thesis statement

Body (paragraphs 2, 3, etc.)

A. Develops, expands, and/or supports the thesis statement

B. Includes a topic sentence for each paragraph

C. Includes supporting details which reinforce the topic sentence.

Concluding paragraph

A. Restates the thesis or sums up the argument.

B. Tells the reader what you think is important to remember. (Often, this is a personal response).

C. Never introduce new information in the conclusion. Extend your thinking on something from the essay.

I would write an introductory paragraph than 3 paragraphs for (3 different behaviors) than a paragraph for your conclusion. But remember to have the paragraphs transition well and to have about 4 to 5 sentences per paragraph.

Format it like this:

State your thesis and introduction paragraph with three main topics that will prove your commitment. Then in the body discuss the three topics all in different paragraph and then sum up everything you discussed in your last paragraph!!
