It started out as a way to sell drugs actually. If there are sneakers on the powerline, you could buy something there. I had wondered the same thing, and found out from my friends father. (He was the ex head of the SBI for NC, the state version of the FBI). I'm sure there are some instances where its just kids playing around though!

In some areas footwear are thrown up over the lines, and the colour of the footwear represents the form of drugs you will get in the section. yet i think of maximum folk are only thrown up via childrens for the sake of it as they do no longer come down relatively undemanding.

i see shoes on telephone wires everywhere and i heard its becuase the person who they belonged to is going to be killed by who ever put them up their. i allways wonder when i look up their, kinda makes me sad. i would want my shoes up their

It used to mean it was a crack house(place to buy crack),but it could be any kind of drugs are being sold or a whore house.

i just have to say wow...I never thought about that (your original thought about someone dying there was intriguing) but the actual answer is like "OOOOHH" when i think of the parts of town where i've seen that! that is CRAZY!!
