How can I fight it? I have had acne ever since 13. It gives me low self-esteem. I'vebeen trying to fight this stupid acne for years. I have used all sorts of products, washed my face daily, even went to a dermotologist. Can anyone tell me what I should do??

Maybe its all the products you are using on your skin that are aggravating it. Stop using anything on your face for a few weeks and see what happens. Just splash your face with water in the morning and before bed.

Drink 2 litres of water a day as it flushes out all the toxins in your body and is very effective for keeping skin clear. Also of course make sure you have a healthy diet.

Go back to your doctors and ask if you can go on the contraceptive pill(assuming you are a girl) as it can help clear up acne.

I sympathise I really do - at a time when appearance counts for so much, it must undermine your confidence. Unfortunately, acne at your age is normal.
Diet is a big deal with acne - garbage in via the mouth makes for poor skin - vegetables in the diet help. Avoid chocolate (it's the chemical make up not the fat). Stimulants like alcohol, tea, coffee don't help, and some people find that cutting out dairy products does wonders for their skin.
Getting the circulation going with exercise helps, as this also gets the lymphatic system going.
I do have some aromatherapy suggestions if you are interested - but this could be expensive buying the oils. Otherwise, I found a homoeopathic remedy - arnica - which might help try Acne - ABC Homeopathy Forum for some useful advice.

As your hormones settle down, the problem may sort itself out.

I have been struggling for what seems like forever, too. But I don't think acne has anything to do with what we put on our face (unless you're allergic to it) because if that was the case, then a friend of yours using the same cleanser as you would have the same results. The difference is hormones! You could have more androgens (male hormones) than most people. Same goes for girls. I recommend a hormone test just to see if it's out of balance. In the mean time I would start with your diet. Do you know how our body gets rid of toxins? If we can't poop it out (for lack there of) then it figures out ways to come out (like our skin, through sweat). So eating nachos and pizza or candy and pop is probably not a good thing for your skin.

1. Take some B vitamins (helps regulate hormones)
2. Boost immune system to fight off internal bacteria (Vitamin C)
3. Use Aloe Vera gel when you're oily (balances pH)

My son had it from aged 13 to 22 he got medication from the doctor but it didn't do much, so he tried "quinaderm" not sure if that's the correct spelling but the chemist will know what you mean it was very good.

Don't whatever you do start squeezing the spots as this cause it to spread and it aggravates them making them look ten times worse, believe me my son tried it, try not to let it get you down I know that's easier said than done but getting stressed out by it doesn't help either, Hold your head up high and keeping smiling people will then only see a happy face.

I honestly think you'll just grow out of it, but my sons seemed to improve almost over night after he moved from Leeds, England up to Fife,Scotland don't know if this was a coincidence or what it could be, the air is cleaner up there and he has a less stressful job so all three combined could have brought it to an end.

Acne is an inflammatory skin problem that starts when oil and dead skin cells clog up the pores. It usually strikes teenagers because the increase in male sex hormones makes the skin oilier. This excess oil feeds particular skin bacteria, and the waste and fatty acids produced by these irritate the skin. Pimples and inflammation or redness follow.
Drink plenty of water and eat a diet rich in essential fatty acids (omega 3 from salmon and mackerel, omega 6 from pumpkin seeds and linseeds) which are crucial to the skin's cell membranes. These good fats will help balance your hormones and have proved incredibly beneficial for the skin.

Yes, it's normal- most people's bodies don't adjust fully until they're into their early 20's. It could be that you're washing your face too much as well, maybe u have sensitive skin and you're aggravating it more. Have u tried a prescription rather than over the counter products? It's also possible that changing your products constantly is making it worse. Try sticking w/ something for a longer period of time, watch what u eat (lots of healthy foods) and drink as much water as possible.

Yes its normal, but you need to wash yur face every-day oil in your pores have build up in them every day no matter where you r most products just make the acne worse but theres a special soap for acne you need some special cleanser towelets, and if the products aren`t working and you see the acne getting worse stop using it and stick to soap and a rag and only one product useing all types of chemicals on your face can cause it to break out badly, its called mixing chemicals and that will really tear your face up because the contanints in one acne medicine and another contents from another acne medicine can mix and cause break-outs and dry skin,So stick to soap, rag, one acne cream, wash yur face every-day!!! i`m sure it will clean up and your skin will be fresh and smooth!!! Good luck!~Gabby~;-)

Yes it is natural for a 19 year old to have acne.
Really you should be pleased. It means that your skin is naturally and very healthy.

I wouldn't use any expensive creams or lotions you know.

Try using tea tree oil. it's a natural product so it won't contain all the nasty ingredients you find in shop bought products.
You can buy tea tree lotion.
It has natural propertites to able the skin to heal, and reduce spots from accuring.

It's perfectly normal for a 19 yr old to still get pimples. Adolescent acne doesn't stop at 18, it can go into the 20s and 30s.

Have you tried Proactiv? I've heard it's a really good product.
