The first answerer is on fire. :) I teach my 3rd graders a systematic way to approach their EOGs, and I think it would work just as well for the SATs (I didn't come up with the approach, but it's mostly common sense).

Read the title & notice any text features (bold print, numbered paragraphs, pictures, captions, etc.).

Read the questions FIRST. Underline the key words (this'll make it faster for you to answer once you've read the passage).

Read the passage, and as you read, circle any information that strikes you as important (especially if it answers one of the questions you already read).

Reread the questions and then choose the best answer. I make my students read from the last choice up to the top so they don't just stop at the first appealing answer. You probably won't have this problem since you're older and not a moron. :D

**Definitely read the questions first though. You can sometimes answer the questions w/o even having to read the passage, which will shave off some time searching for the answer. If you know what you're expected to answer before you read, you can just skim and search rather than read the whole thing.**

Good luck!

Read the questions first, and then go back and read the passage keeping them in mind. That will focus your reading
