i think that the prison system sucks....they need to let out all the non violent offenders and send them to iraq......with one condition that if they cause no trouble and make it home with and honorable discharges....then they should be set free...like it was done in the vietnam war.

Heck, a lot of them are paying their own way. Have you ever looked at how many products and services are being provided through companies that use prison labor? Of course, all that slave labor is competing for jobs that would be performed by free citizens.

Do a search on "prison industries" or "prison industry".

And the prisons are being widely privatized, so there's an additional incentive to incarcerate.

I believe many, many fewer people should be in prison. But I believe the ones that should be there shouldn't be having a free ride.

How do you think most of them are going to do that? They are usually broke. If you put them on a chain gang, you risk them escaping, which is not really good. Some may have money, but is it fair that they pay for everyone else? Most are a bunch of losers, that deserve to be where they are. So letting them free is not an option. It is a hard question you ask, for sure! Maybe there should be more work farms, that are on prison grounds so that they can actually do something productive, but many are incorrigible, and really cannot be utilized in that manner!!

No, I don't. Prison is being privatized and now there is a profit incentive to jail as many as possible. They probably will make them pay their way but I don't agree that jail should be for profit.

You are funny? Going to dig them up?

Many do work and you get a tax benefit from not having to pay to have it done! Of course, it usually puts someone out of a job!

And you don't pay your own way in many things in life! You think your parents paid 100% of the cost of your education, or your roads! I don't think so! I think many people who have no children helped pay for your education!
