HP all the way. I have had no problems with my HP Media Center PC. Dell..they call it Dell because their tech support is in New Deli, India my friend. They know what they are doing but you wont be able to understand what they are saying.

Honestly, it's a toss up.
In general, a Dell will be more of a challenge to upgrade yourself in the future as they tend to wedge things in pretty snug. HP's are getting just as bad...so...worry more about the performance you want...and who has the best deal on any given day.
Happy Computing.

I found both to very good, but working in the computer trade i have found that dell for the last couple of years, unless you add extras they make it so you can do it yourself later, for example, they dont put the part of the case that hold the floppy drive in if you dont buy their floppy drive, the connectors are there but there is no where to fix it in the case, also if you dont buy the system with seperate graphics you will find you dont have a PCI-E slot. HP dont do this, so if you buy one from them you can add parts later, with dell you might find trouble upgrading

Personally I have had GREAT experiences with HP/Compaq laptops over the past several years, and I keep getting new HP/Compaq laptops with AMD processors in them - they work GREAT and dont hurt the wallet too much.
