I've recently watched a multimedia presentation about drunk driving and they said in Canada alone, around few hundred to thousands per year. How could these people do that?

Actually the number has been dropping since 1982. In 2004 it was over 16,000 deaths were caused by a drinking driver. This is a tiny % of total accidental deaths in the country and is 31% lower than 1982.

Edit - Honeybee there is this thing called the Internet so you don't have to make up your stats. Heart Disease is the #1 killer in America and is 3824% higher than the number of people killed by drunk drivers.
