Milk of magnesia is primarily used in alleviating constipation. Sometimes is used for heartburn and indigestion. If the formulation is a suspension in aluminium hydroxide - I advise you not to take it on a regular basis. Try Al-free formulation.

P.S.
1.Aluminium is a contributor to the Alzheimer's disease.
2.Daily consumption of milk of magnesia by someone suffering from renal failure could lead in theory to hypermagnesemia.
