Because it SUCKS ***....Any place is better than here. This state is flat, and the winter lasts 6 months, and then you have 3 months of humidity in the summer, and everybody is fat as hell.....and there arent enough women, so even the heifers can be choosy

If you like to shop, it's okay. There are some outlet malls- Great Lakes Crossing & Birch Run...
If you want to buy a car or get your hair done, my city is the place for you!
The reason I think it's not very tourist friendly is that Detroit's had such a bad name since the riots and it really isn't a vacation spot. People right IN Detroit are trying to survive, not appease tourists.

Because you arent going to the right spot.Theres lots to do. There is awesome places to shop all around Detroit. Some are a bit further away like Great lakes crossing, and theres ferndale and royal oak. If you are old enough, the casinos are fun. There is Great places to eat downtown, we have the hard rock cafe and the one overlooking the river in the renaissance center and Nikis has the best pizza. Theres the Detroit institute of arts. The Detroit Zoo. Greenfield village and Henry ford museum and the IMAX theater. The magic stick is a fun bar with a bowling alley, the garden bowl.**** you can just drive around downtown and take pictures of the beautiful arcitecure. The old churches, the old Train station and lots of other beautiful buildings. When its warm enough you can drive north a little ways and there is a awesom metro park on Lake St Clair with tons of stuff to do.

It's not that bad, depending on the season you can see the Tigers, Red Wings, or Lions, unfortunately the Pistons don't play there. And if you stay in the right areas, there's not too much crime there. Many sports bars if you're into that stuff.
If you ask me Flint, Michigan is much worse. [Way dumpier too, haha]

it is simple Detroit is becoming a ghost town.
The casinos are a joke. It is a waste of time and money you have better chances of winning the lotto.
the museums are a joke , most of the collections are put in storage, half empty exhibit halls..
The roads are a mess always under construction.
The theaters are falling apart or very dirty. The restaurants are expensive, and most need to be shut down by the board of health, (rodents and roaches are a big problem in the summer).

Depends on your likes. It really depends on the time of year, what you like to do and what's going on during that time.
