I was told putting a pillow in the drier will kill germs and make it clean.

It's true that the heat from the dryer will kill certain germs and dust mites. It's false that the dryer will clean them.

EVERYONE's pillows have bacteria AND dust mites. Both are fairly harmless but can cause people to have allergy problems if their pillows are really full of dust mites. Even the Queen of England has bacteria and dust mites in her pillow.

If you want to kill bacteria and dustmites, throw your pillow in the dryer on the hottest setting for atleast 10-15 minutes. If your pillow is dirty- wash it in the washer first, then dry it. If it is a down pillow- I would suggest just setting it out in the sun. Washing and drying a down pillow will ruin it.

dryer at a high setting helps kill some germs in stuffed animals and pillows 10 - 15 minutes... pillows should be replaced every 3 - 5 years... better than the dryer... look for washable pillows 9they make both synthetic and down) and wash them at least 2 'xs a year...

wash pillows (and all bedding) daily whenever you are sick with a contagious illness... chickenpox, pink eye, strep throat, whooping cough, influenza or viral gastroenteritis..

I wash mt pillows in the bath first before putting them in the washing machine I rub them with the good old soap bar , you know the one for washing clothes. then take all the water out pop them in the machine on a normal wash., then outside in the open air and sun . they look as good as they day I bought them. PS I have never tried putting them in the dryer ,so I can´t say if this is true or not

Well, seeing as how germs love warm places, that sounds like a myth to me. Unless you use something to actually kill the germs, I don't think that is going to work.
