being a good drummer isnt about readin notes its about knowing how to make a good beat, and if u can make a gud beat then you can be a good drummer, and there have been plenty of good drummers tht didnt know how 2 read notes and all tht before they started to drum, some of the greats like neil purit and even joey jordison, so it doesn't really matter if u can read notes in my opinion as long as u have a drive

Not at all. In order to learn to play songs written by others you may want to learn how to read scores etc, but to be a drummer and create your own beats requires coordination, rhythm, and creativity.

You will need to learn to read a drum score, but it is simpler than a score for tonal instruments in that you won't have to remember cribs such as Every Good Boy Does Fine.

Here is the problem. You can only play by ear if you have good hearing. When playing drums, good hearing is the first thing to go.

you definitely have to have rhythm. have someone listen to you and try playing with people playing other instruments. find people who are close friends and can be honest with you and let you know if you're playing right or not. good luck!
