It hurt unionized workers, who were enjoying high salaries and relaxed workplace atmosphere that put worker happiness above catering to whims of customers.

It hurt small-store owners who were earning high margins due to lack of ruinous competition from megastores, or costs of benefit plans expected of large corporations.

Also, international distribution of Hollywood movies and global reach of MacDonalds chain hurt the image of America abroad, painting it as a criminal, immoral and unhealthy place.

If you want a more specific example, exports of Japanese cars halved the revenues of auto repair shops, costing many mechanics their jobs.

The traditional argument is that it costs Americans jobs. With American consumers having access to foreign goods, our homeland companies must continue to compete on price and quality to retain our purchases. Sounds like a good thing, but the playing field is not always level. How can we produce quality toys and compete with say ... China? Their workers work for a fraction of what American works make, our companies must follow all kinds of rules and regulations, pay minimum wage etc. We can never compete on price under this condition , so our toy companies will go out of business and people will lose their jobs. Same with the auto industry, etc. I don't feel that we can become isolationists and protect jobs. It would not be efficient in the long run. But once again the loss of jobs is the usual complaint here.

Globalization has been a tremendous boon to the US economy, stimulated job growth overall, and lowered prices, improving the purchasing power of americans.

NO.

The opposite of globalization is decreased liberty and politician controlled trade.
Human history has not fared well with either of those.
