I wasn't happy that he would be gone and I was worried that something would happen to him while he was there. He's been gone nearly a year at this point and while it is hard not hearing from him for a few weeks at a time--he's been okay thus far. I'm honestly more worried about when he comes home and has to process what has been happening since he got there and things he's seen that he won't be able to shake easily. He's my heart though so I support him as much as I can--send lots of letters and candy and presents--and keep doing as much as my normal routine as possible.

My brother went in September...

He is like my best friend...so, that is the closest I could get to answer your question...

I felt really disconnected emotionally when he went...

But, he was emotionally disconnected as well....

I don't think he was happy about going..., so I just wanted to support him...

I kept in contact with him...and my level of concern wasn't high because he was serving on the base...he didn't have to go out and fight...

But, I had a good family friend that went...he volunteered to go...and he was excited...so, other that me being a little worried for him...I was excited that he was fulfilling part of his dream by going...He loves this country and spends a lot of time touring to provide services for our military...

So, I guess it depends on the person leaving...how they feel is how you will feel....

I was all for it, my husband volunteered to go, he wasn't forced. He wanted to help the Iraqi's, and he knows what we are fighting for. We are fighting to help security in America, and to help the Iraqi's out with their new found democracy. It sucks, but I do what I did when he was here, except the sex and spending time with him! I just write letters when I miss him, I work, spend time with my family, friends, my dog, read...I would never even think about cheating on him either. He is a good man and I am so lucky to have someone like him in my life.
