Personally if I was your Dad you would either have to do something like work for it or you would have to convince me why you need a $1000 computer, as in what can it do that your old one can't? Let me see, you can't type in your paper any faster, your research on the Internet won't be any faster, ...
Hint don't say my games would run faster, or Vista has prettier icons.

Hmmm, I think you are back to showing him that you understand the value of his money by supplying something he does think would be worth it, like you are learning the value of money by working off some of the cost.

Get a job. Stop being so lazy.

Or find a cheaper alternative. They make 1000 dollar computers for a certain type of person. These people typically HAVE JOBS.

You on the other hand need to go to some garage sales or browse craigslist.

1000 for a computer is a bit much when he doesn't want to pay much.

I recently got a second computer from Dell that has vista for $500. not the best hardward, but it works fine.
512MB RAM(need to update) Semprom 3400+ I think, 80GB hdd.

You can also find someone nearby to build you one for a low price.

If you can, do some work around the house or neighborhood if you are not old enough to get a job and help pay for it.

This is the wrong place for that kind of question man.

Anyway, you can't really do much to convince your dad to spend a grand on something that he doesn't really want you to have... using his money!

Ask yourself honestly, are you really NOT going to play games with the new computer? Hmm?

Try promising your Dad that you will play games less. I know you said you don't play that much, but parents like to hear that you won't play as much. If the computer's fixable, why get a new one? If it works fine for what you do with it then you should hold on to it.
