Why are liberals so misinformed about corporations?

A running theme with liberals seems to be corporations are bad.

Corporations are simply a highly efficient tool of capitalism. Consider that up to 50% of corp profit is taxed, how many people corps employ, corp charity work, the benefits to consumers ie, quality product, competitive price, etc, etc.

Conspiracy theorists need to understand corps just want to make dollars.

P.S. Related note, pharmaceutical's spend billions researching drugs, why should you get it a discounted price?

The oil industry is one of the most risky industries to be in. High exploration costs, governmental regulation costs, marketplace considerations, etc. etc. The oil industry deserves and has earned their record profits. If you commies cant understand that, then God save this union.

Democrats hate Corporations, Companies, Businesses, because they are all EMPLOYERS.
Democrats hate EMPLOYERS.
Because Democrats are either idle rich, work for the government, or are on welfare.

That's an interesting question, but it appears to have a partially flawed premise, the notion that All Liberals Hate Business or something similar. Most definitely, there is a "flavor" of liberalism that holds that "the man" must "give it to the little guy". There are many problems with this thinking, including the idea that somehow the big corporation is pulling money out of its rear end and not creating wealth that it has a right to retain. However, there is a certain aspect of socially progressive behavior that is valued by a significant number of churchgoing, heartland Americans. The question becomes whether we as Americans should be able to compel our government to act in our interests (after all, its job) by distributing tax dollars to serve the social missions we value.

That is not conspiracy theory... it's Methodism (or something similar). And it's what a lot of people here believe in.

Now, one may argue that it's not the government's -- or corporations' -- responsibility to be the mother and to wipe the nose of every little snot who can't take care of himself. But some of those corporations are given incentives by the federal government to act in a way that benefits the government's "customer" (us), and if those companies don't do so (for instance, lowering the price of a life-saving medical procedure at the government's demand), then such corporations are not only acting in bad faith but are acting illegally as well. In short, the contract goes both ways.

Even Ayn Rand said that there were certain things that the government should be compelled to do on our behalf whether it wanted to or not, among them defending the country from outside military threats that individuals were not capable of resisting. Sometimes these things don't make sense at an individual level, but leaving it to the individuals doesn't help either.

You are right about one thing: outside of paying their taxes, corporations that are privately held have no obligation to anyone but the equity partners or whoever controls the purse strings. Companies that are publicly held are responsible to their stockholders and should be held accountable. Companies that receive federal aid are even MORE beholden to the people.

And for what it's worth, companies CAN prosper and thrive being a "nice guy", which just calls into questions those who feel it just isn't worth the effort to clean up their own waste, donate spare office supplies, or help build a community park.

Yes, corporations just want to make a profit. The problem is when the corporation's right to a profit trumps every right held by a private individual.

Perhaps the liberals, not being blinded by those rose coloured glasses, see more clearly than you that corporatism and capitalism are not the same, and that corporations are actually stifling fair markets.

You cite competetive pricing as a benefit of the corporate culture, and then suggest that big pharmacy deserves to soak the sick for every penny they can get. How do the extended and lax drug patent laws encourage fair competition?

Corporations are immortal, and have no moral imperative but profit and market share. They are not concerned even with the viability of our biosphere, and are spending billions to convince us that climate change is either not occurring, or not their concern.

I expect when we have all drowned in our own boiling wastes there will be a debate in the last boardroom about whose fault it is sales have fallen off.

In the corporate world, as long as the cash is flowing and the stockholders are happy with their dividends, they could CARE LESS about how the money is made nor about the morals of the CEO.

I've never heard of a conspiracy theory concerning corporations. It has more to do with the fact that many of them are moving out and/or investing in foreign countries instead of investing in the USA while many of them are being subsidized with our tax $. Our government has made that very attractive to them in the interest of globalization and free trade. These trade agreements need to be modified to stop slave labor and poor environmental practices.

There is supposed to be trickle down economics with a Republican economy, but it is gushing to foreign countries and CEO's instead of to the citizens of our country. Its a matter of public record.

Why do Mexico and Canada get their prescription drugs at about half the price we pay? I'm not asking for a discounted price, just a fair one would do.

Many of the drug companies use OUR money to research drugs, and those they find as a side to their government funded research, they patent and charge you ridiculous amounts!

some do a lot of good things... some also don't...

and in my experience.. more don't than do...

and I don't think that the vast majority pay anywhere near 50 percent in taxes... from what I have seen... and the small part of the overall tax base cooperate taxes make up would seem to support that idea...

you also kind of contradict yourself... you say they do a lot of good things... but then say they "just want to make dollars"... that's kind of the point... they care more about "making dollars" than people....

there is a LOT of middle ground between making profit and giving back to the community... profit is good... but going to any degree to make profit is something I can not support...

and on a related note... the federal government subsidizes BILLIONS in medical research dollars... that's why we should get a discount... because we PAY for a lot of it....

They created the micro-managed political and enforced living enviroments in our Country that have forever destroyed any chance for our children to live a truly free life.

They pushed for every American to be treated like criminals - hundreds of black globes watching our every step in every store we enter. Camera's on the streets and freeways. See through X-ray cameras at the Airports. It is now guilty until proven innocent and that IS NOT AMERICA!

It is Corporate America and we are all tax paying suspects, not U.S. citizens.

They rule Washington without the voice and vote of the American people through their Lobbying!

They sell our Country out to the highest foreign bidder to cover themselves in case the financial bottom falls out - which it will thanks to the Fed's never ending printing money out of thin air!

That is why we hate Corporations!

Their obligation is to the shareholders, not the American people!

I really don't understand their thinking either. But there is too much greed in too many corp areas. Oil and drug co.s are the worst offenders. There is no justification for outright greed. The libs are trashing this country and are closet communists. (Not all libs, but too many for comfort) They seem to know lots about unimportant things like the stupid 'global warming' garbage, animal "rights", sympathy for bad criminals, tree hugging, etc. They should be in no positions of power, that's a fact.
