I am due in less than 4 weeks with baby girl #2 and I making a list of the things I still need... can you help me out? My first daughter is 2 now and I am getting a bit fuzzy- what could you not live without during the first 3 months of your newborn's life?

I have all the furniture & big ticket items, I am talking about smaller items, clothing and products. Also, with clothing, how many of each item did you need? What items made your everyday life easier? What were your favorite baby products?

Help me please, I know I am forgetting things and it's driving me crazy! Thanks in advance...

BTW I am going to breast feed as I did with my first, so items relating to bottle-feeding won't be needed, I won't be pumping because I stay at home!

woo_jen- I love Butt Paste! I'm a New Orleans native, spent most of my life in Mandeville which is where I currently live... where are you from? You must be a local, it started in Covington when I was a baby! My mom used to get it at the pharmacy at the corner of 190 and 21 where it turns into Tyler Street- she said in those days you had to bring your own container and he'd just sell you a batch based on weight! LOL love the product, it's the best there is! When my first daughter was 8 months and Katrina hit, we ended up living up north for a few months and that's how I know they don't sell it up there- I couldn't find it anywhere!

Most people have already stated the obvious, but here are my less common choices for you!

~Boudreaux's Butt Paste for diaper area protection.

~Boppy nursing pillow (go for the Deluxe version- it's bigger and has nicer covers) and thick hand towels for burping/breastmilk dribble catching.

~Plenty of cute outfits, including decently fitting socks (you'll probably get sick of just onesies and pajamas pretty quickly, like I have).

~A good breastpump (I love my Medela Pump In Style Advanced), a decent ice pack and insulated bag, a few bottles, and Nuk silicone nipples. I stay home too, but it's nice to be able to take a bottle with us for when we venture out and I can't breastfeed, like at the grocery store. I also froze a few bottles to save for when my husband and I went out on our first post-baby date and left our girl with Grandpa for a few hours.

~Nursing pads

Breastfeeding essentials:

Really all you need are breasts (lol) but here are my faves:

1. You CAN'T do it without a Boppy pillow!
2. A sling is a luxury item and I never had one. I'm a lactation consultant now, and wish wish WISH I had had one! My front pack carrier hurt my back so much, and the closeness you get with a sling is hard to beat.
3. Nursing bras, especially the comfort or sports type bras. The whole front is one big flap and you can take the whole thing down...it's so much easier.
4. Lanolin
5. Keep a pump in mind, you may need it for insurance pumping if you need to boost your milk supply at any time. Don't buy one until you need it though. If you do ever need one, either rent a hospital grade pump or make an investment in a very good one like Medela Pump in Style (about $250-$290). There's no comparison to the ones you buy at Wal-Mart.

I bet you're getting excited! Best of luck to you!

Diapers cloth or disposable
Wipes -buy one package plus a case of refills
*Some babies can't handle wipes try to find the paper-clothes that they use in hospitals, some drugstores carry them
Change pad, a cloth topped one is nice as it isn't as cold.
A new crib mattress if using a crib, crib mattress should not be used for more than one baby as it has been linked to SIDS and whatnot

Onsies - a tonne
Sleepers - a tonne
Receiving blankets aka spit up cleaners - a tonne
A fleece "snow suit" lightish weight for those cool days

Swing or bouncer?
Bassinette?

Vaseline
Diaper cream

I think that's about all I couldn't live without.

Cotton flat fold diapers- they work great for catching spit up, tucking under your breast while breastfeeding to catch any milk that leaks or spills, giving the baby something to clutch on to, as well.
A swing- that was lifesaver for a few times when he just wouldn't calm down.
We went through about 3 onesies a day, so you can't get enough of those.
And plenty of blankets for swaddling.
And movies to watch during those late night feedings!
Congrats!

Lots of nappies and soft wipes- container for wipes, cotton balls, bunny rugs, blankets, metho for cord, cotton buds, socks - 3 pairs, mittens, baby nail clippers, body suits about 6 of two sizes( for in the hospital) about nine for at home, nipple pads, bibs for the dribbling if they start early, baby powder, baby shampoo, soft bathtime soap, cream for rashes, a bag to carry everything, baby change mat, baby towels, baby panadol, gripe water and seringe, bonjela for early teething, comfy tracky dacks for mum, stretch mark cream for mum, face cloths for bubby, soft toy so she can identify it her own.
Congratulations and I hope everything goes well.

I couldn't make it without receiving blankets and blanket sack sleepers. Those are the first two things that come to my mind. I am 25 weeks along and we have pretty much everything, now I just keep buying stuff because it is "just so cute!" LOL
