I bought three angel fish yesterday and today two die. They were in a lighthouse ornament I have in the tank then one died and then about an hour later the other one died, I also have two goldfish and a a scavenger in the tank... And before you go blaming my Jeeves "that's the scavenger" he doesn't bother anyone. The third angel is just floating near the top of the water.

The tank is pretty small, it only 18x10x10 inches. I don't know about the PH I bought the first gold fish at a fair and the second to keep its company.

The water keeps going green I changed it partially on Sunday March 10th 2007, without removing the fish this was before I put the angelfish in yesterday.

The guy at the pet shop told me to put a handful of salt into the tank because fresh water fish will heal if they are stress when you put salt in the water.

The original fish (goldfish and Scavenger) are fine it the angel that died.

Angelfish are kind of touchy tropical fish and need water temp in the range of 76-80 degrees and "very" good water quality to survive. My guess is that you hadn't done a water change in a "long" time before the one you just did. The algae won't hurt the fish, the wrong temp and the elevated levels of the "big three" toxins will be what is killing the new fish.

Your old fish will live in really poor water quality for quite a while before it kills them because it builds up so slowly. New fish are thrust into the toxic soup all at once and it shocks them to the point that they die.

If the ammonia, nitrites and nitrates have been building up for a long time, even a 50% change won't be enough to bring the toxin levels down to where angels can live in it. They need pure clean water that you only get from doing 30% water changes "every week."

Goldfish are "coldwater fish" and need temps in the area of 60-65 degrees, no warmer. Tropicals need 70-80 degrees and no cooler. If you try to keep them together, one group will suffer, stress out and die eventually from its' immune system being compromised by the wrong temp. There is no middle ground to keep both, one or the other will stress and die or both will from trying to keep them somewhere in the middle.

How large is your tank? What are your water params testing at? PH, Nitrates, Ammonia etc. Has your tank fully cycled? (Set up and running for about 2weeks to a month?)

If it is a 10 gallon you really have too many fish in the tank. Angles as well as gold fish need pleanty of space to swim and grow as well as Dissolved Oxygen (from your filter or powerheads not air stones). Also, adding three angles to a small tank at the same time places a heavy load on your biofilter. Is your top filter working fine? Also, if you are not running a heater due to your gold fish needing cold water, your angles still need heated water. This also could have been the problem.

If I can help further feel free to email me or repost with your answers.

P.S. Pleco's and Hillstream, Weather and a few other loachs are cold water fish.

There would properly be many motives. There must be something on your water the Angel fish can not cope with. They require a undeniable ph to thrive. that's around 6.5 to 6.9. you ought to get a Ph try kit and verify you water periodically. maximum aquariums sell them fee effectively. additionally it must be that certainly one of your different fish have been bullying the Angel fish. yet another element, you ought to be transfering undesirable water from the placement you purchase your fish. you ought to in no way positioned every person else's water on your tank. Scoop your fish out with a internet. If obtainable.positioned new fish in a retaining tank in the past including them on your many times happening tank. Or medicate all new fish in the past including them on your tank.

what size is the tank, how did you introduce the fish, and how long has the tank been running?

angelfish and goldfish should NOT be mixed, they have entirely different water requirements. goldfish being heavy waste producers and coldwater, angels being sensitive to water conditions and tropical fish. if your angel is still alive, take him back to the store.

what is your scavenger? a cory? plec? chinese algae eater? loach? some of these are tropical, some sub-tropical, none really suitable tankmates for goldfish.
