The Shining, by Stephen King. i've had that book for about 15 years now, and i've attempted to read it a few times, but i've never got past the half-way point - it always ends up giving me nightmares, so i have to stop reading it ! i'm not usually one to get freaked-out by books, but that one does it to me every time.

the girl In Black by way of Susan Hill. that's a ghost tale so i do no longer recognize in case you may opt for to study it in spite of the indisputable fact that that's excellently written. an extremely traumatic e book that I additionally stumbled on particularly frightening yet that's thoroughly non-supernatural is 'Complicity' by way of Iain Banks.

The scariest book I ever read was The Exorcist. When it first came out LONG ago, I was babysitting for the weekend for a friend of my parents' in a house that was kind of out in the middle of nowhere. Lori, the mother, was an English teacher and knew I was an avid reader. I asked her what was good for me to read over the weekend and she said, The Exorcist! and handed me a copy. I didnt sleep all weekend. I sat up with their dog Taffy freaking out over every single sound I heard. Moral of the story -- NEVER read The Exorcist when you are home alone!

i'm scared now in very different ways then i was when i was younger...disturbed is more like how a book can make me feel now...anyhow, my list of books that recently disturbed me (between the ages of 25 and 28 mind you)
Song of Kali - Dan Simmons
House of Leaves - Mark Danielowsky
Pluto, Animal Lover - can't remember...some book my father found in a 1$ bin at some value village that we both read and then somehow one of us lost it.
i can't think of anything else that's not just a non-fiction book about things i just don't like to think about!

point horror when i was a teenager. Im never sure whether i like scary books or movies. The adrenalin and excitement at first is quite funny. But afterwards when you have to sleep with the light on and stuff, you just wish you never bothered.

I have to be honest and say I have never read a book that made me too scared to fall asleep - but then very few movies have ever done that either.
