The Lakers won 33 in a row, an all time record for any professional sports team, in the 1971-72 season.
By comparison, the 96 Bulls, who went 72-10, had an 18 game winning streak at one point. The 97 Bulls, who went 69-13 (same as the 72 Lakers) had a 12 game streak.
On Oct 30 and 31, 1971, the Lakers lost back to back games to Seattle and Golden State.
On Nov 5,1971, the Lakers beat the Baltimore Bullets (n/k/a the Wizards) to bring their record to 7-3.
That was the first of their 33 wins in a row.
The final game of their streak was a 134-90 win over the Hawks. This brought their record to 39 wins and 3 loses.
On Sunday Jan 9, 1972, in a nationally televised game, the Milwaukee Bucks defeated the Lakers 120-104, ending the longest wining streak in professional sports history.
Kareem Abdul Jabbar scored 39 points and pulled down 20 rebounds in that game.
The Lakers went on to win 69 games, against 13 loses, and captured the NBA title for the first time since moving to Los Angeles from Minneapolis.
The Lakers set a lot of records that year, among them was their 162-99 victory over the Golden State Warriors on March 19, 1972. That was the largest margin of victory in NBA history.
