98.6 is the textbook perfect temperature, so your babies' temp is ok. If it is hot where you live you should follow this simple rule: dress your baby as you are dressed and keep a receiving blanket nearby just in case she gets cranky, a sign that she might get cold. People tend to overdress babies, especially when they are very young, and it's not necessary. If you have any questions about what I am telling you (I am a nurse, by the way) ask your pediatrician.

Doctors usually say a baby has a fever if her temperature rises about 1.5-2 degrees (Fahrenheit) above its normal value -- which is typically 98.6 but can vary by a degree or so in either direction. Learn what your baby's normal temperature is by taking it a few times when she is not sick.

And as a rule of thumb, once the body temperature hits 100.4, that's a fever.

That is a normal temp!! Make sure you always check an infants temp, rectally, this is the most accurate you can get and it is usually around 99.0!!
