but i can never tell him,
one time i showed him pictures of us,
he asked me WHY DID YOU SHOW ME THOSE PARTICULAR ONES OF US ONLY?
I denied it,afriad of being mocked at.
did i loose my chance?
Was he really asking me if I liked him??
or WAS HE TRYING TO BE SMUG ABOUT MY FEELINGS FOR HIM?

If you "can never tell him", you have virtually no chance of ever going out with/hooking up with/marrying him.

since you denied liking him, you sent two conflicting emotions. you should admit it to him so you can stop torchering yourself.
i would sugest you hurry; the longer you wait the more time the belife that you have a crush on him has to disapear.
Their could be a number of emotions behind those words that he used. the only real way to truely identify what he felt is to tell him your feelings and about the situation.

If you really love him, you should tell him. If he cannot give you love back, you will be better off without him, as you will never be happy. If you don't risk, you don't gain!!!
