True story. . . In the "olden days" they used to inject the urine of a woman into a rabbit. If the rabbit died, the woman was definitely pregnant. If the rabbit lived, she was not.
This is where this saying came from.

The first pregnancy test worked by creating an anaphalatic immune reaction to the human pregnancy hormones in a rabbit. if the rabbit died, the woman was pregnant. This was known as the rabbit test.
In the late 1970,s In their song "Sweet Emotion" Aerosmith sang "You can't catch me 'cause the rabbit done died!" indicating that the the singer had run away after getting a girl pregnant.

It means a pregnancy has occured in the person taking a specific test in which a rabbit had to die if the test was positive. I don't believe they do it this way anymore, as P.E.T.A. would have a fit!
