I'm sorry, I'm laughing and I'm 56,so you can see my reference point. I lived in the day that if you got a spanking at school you automatically got one at home and then some. Let me ask you this, How many areas of usa culture do you find to be motivated, self-disciplined, responsible, It is ridiculous compared to what I lived thru. You played, you paid. But being as I was an elem teacher, I know what you are asking. Here is my bottom line> Most parents today are so busy or whatever, that they see school as a day care. So do you care what you kid "learns" at daycare, or do you just need free daycare so you can get to work and make money. Our society has caused this. No one personally is liable. So as a teacher I'm looking out at the students whose parents have this philosophy and tell me what I'm going to do to motivate them if their parents don't care ???????? The one word the would change our culture would be : ACCOUNTABILITY, I always taught the 4 R's: RESPONSIBILITY, reading, 'riting, rithmetic :) notice the order and my students still call me and "love on me" and they range from 17-40.
