My 5 month old chihuahua decided to chew a 3 inch hole in my italian leather sofa this afternoon.

I have been searching for the past few hours at Target, Walmart, Linens n things, everywhere! for a leather repair kit.

Do you think i can sew the hole shut until i can order a kit from the internet?

Good old duct tape will work wonders until you can make the repair, then toss a blanket or throw pillow over it.
This site offers alot of info, please check it out,and Good luck!
Also, maybe you need to crate your dog while you are away, and give him lots of chew toys because he's teething. Boredom also causes our pets to damage things we treasure. It's our responsibility to keep them entertained.Try "booda" bones or Nylabones.

A hole that large needs to be power sanded to a knife edge on a full circle from the back side, lay it flat onto a piece of plywood, then take an ordinary disc sander and sand it to a knife edge in a circular fashion, then take a patch of leather and contact it to the back side, smooth it more with ordinary 600 grit sand paper, restain, and it will be nearly invisible. Only contact cement unfinished leather, if the leather has a finish, sand it off.

See if you can get some contact cement from a shoe repair shop, they have the best contact cement around. It comes in gallon cans and maybe you can buy like a small 1/2 cup or so put into a bottle with a plastic lid.

I wouldnt buy a leather repair kit on net, get the leather you need in a leather shop, they will help you get even a few square inches of it. The leather shop here in my town even does repairs such as you need done for about $30.
