There are many reasons NOT to get one:

1. If you want one because of the "cool" factor.
2. If you want to use it as a fashion accessory and take it out in public to get attention.
3. If you're the type of person that goes through a lot of hobbies and interests only to get bored with it in a few months or years.
4. If you don't have the money or time to care for it properly (food, equipment, vet visits).

Other than that, there really aren't any other reasons if you're dedicated and decide to get one because you love these amazing snakes.

Well, so long as you can house it and feed it properly when it reaches it's max length of 3-5 feet, and you can maintain it for the 15-20 year lifetime, I don't see why not.

You may be able to talk your parents into it. But will they go for the food? And the cage for the food? (and if not the cage, then the dead food in the freezer and/or weekly buying trips?)

Don't forget that reptiles have an.. odd... smell to them. Not a good smell either.

If you don't inform your parents to every aspect of owning the snake, IF they let you have one, they might turn around and tell you to get rid of it.

You need to be informative, mature, and live up to what you told them should the snake disscussion turn into a purchase.

They grow to be 4 feet long. Is that too big?
They eat live prey or dead mice, maybe rats as they get bigger. Is that too gruesome?
An adult requires a 30 gallon tank. Is this too big?
They need an escape-proof enclosure and appropriate temperature regulating equipment. Is this too expensive?
Reading up on all this, I think I want one too!
Be sure to get a captive bred snake; better for the wild population, and easier to take care of.

there really isn't any reason as to not get one. they are very easy to maintain. i have 2 myself so trust me when i say that they are awesome pets. fill there water dish and maintain there cage. don't get a wire cage due to too much air going through it but make sure that you get one that they cant get out of due to them being little houdinis. live rats when they are babies 2 every other week and when more mature we feed him a medium feeder every 6 weeks. feeder rats are inexpensive. they are easy to handle as long as you don't handle them while they are shedding. usually we feed our right after they shed. every month or so we put some gatorade in their water dishes for the electrolytes. let your parents know that they are easy to maintain and cheap. they love that. if you know where to go you can easily get a ball for under 100-110.

great answers above the only thing I can think of is be prepared for the length of life over 20 up to 40 years. if you cant care for one that long you may consider something else. but at least you are getting prepared and not just diving into it.

i have 4 honestly the only reasons not to get one is for one they are the pickest eaters of pretty much all snakes and if u ddont find out exactly what each one wants to eat they wont and they will die i have one that will only eat gerbils 2 that will only eat large rats and one that only likes small frozen mice anoher is if u dont have the means to take care of them or the supplies
