because barry wrote all of his songs and is a musician, other people write songs for stars today (avril, britney, even norah jones) and you can't hear a song on the radio that hasn't been edited with pro tools

Songs used to have meaning, a songwriter would sit down and pour their heart into a song. Nowadays songs all sound the same: emotionless, monotonous, and quite frankly, boring. There is little effort being but into songs now, and most singers don't even write their own lyrics (with a few exceptions), I miss the old stuff.

Maybe a question of style, content and presentation. Get some olde Sinatra (preferably with Nelson Riddle's Orchestra) and have a listen. Listen to the words, the messages, and hear the presentation. No shouting. No vulgar street language. No overt sex. No violence. Yeah, it was much different. I, personally, miss it.

nicely, in that song (which regrettably i've got heard better than as quickly as), he sings "i'm song and that i write the songs", so he isn't asserting HE wrote the songs, yet he's making a song as though he grow to be the character "song" (like in case you stated you have been the wind, see?).. specific, it fairly is a gay song.

What I think he means is that today songs have more emphasis on rhythm than they do on melody.
