I mean... the kitchen is one thing but...
...Apparently the suicide rate of women prisoners is on the increase ...
Over 75% of women's offences are nonviolent or minor, i.e shoplifting...
More than 60% of women prisoners are mothers...
What do you think..?

I think that there are lots of reasons not to. Especially for nonviolent offenses, there are other ways to help people contribute to society, not the least of which is to help them raise their children to better society.

The way I see it is if they don't want to get in trouble, or end up in prison, they shouldn't do it in the first place. There shouldn't be any special treatment because the woman is a mother, or because she's suicidal...Don't do the crime, don't do the time. Some men are fathers, too, should they get preferential treatment?
I don't agree with people being put into prison for crimes such as shoplifting anyway, so that is the only time I think they should not go to prison, but that would go for men, too.

What should be the intention behind punishment and what is the reason behind the suicide rate?
If you answer those two questions, you will answer your question as well.
Why are women (and men) locked up? Does it make them becoming better citicens, or just more cautious and experienced criminals with more and better contacts? Is the concept to lock people up for minor crimes the right way, or are the better ways for punishment and preventing future crimes than sending people into jail?
And if there are better ways, will the public accept them or will the croud go onto the streets to bring people back to jail?
Why are women killing themselves? Is it a world wide statistic, or is it a local one? Do they try to commit suicide more frequently than men? Are there countries where they don't and why is there a difference?
I think your question is very general and therefore the discussion will be very wide. Maybe too wide to provide any satisfying answer to you.
I am keen to see what answers you will get, for myself it is not specific enough to join in.
An example:
You say more than 60% of prisonors are mothers.
Is it more than 60% of the suiciders, of of the imprisoned women?
And: how does that relate? aren't about 60% of the female adult population mothers too? Or even more? So may it be that mothers are less criminal, or put to jail less frequently?
Facts are not facts as long as you do not put them into the right relation.

IF they're mothers, they should know better than, to commit a crime. If they're single mothers, they should be locked up longer, than if not. But they should be in a different kind of prison, than the modern day traditional prison for women or in general. Not only is the suicide rate of women prisoners on the rise, so is the suicide rate of cops= specicially California's High Way Patrol cops.

if a women can be primeminister then why the hell cant she go to jail.
it doesnt matter what she did, she should bet treated exactly the same as men, it seems that in this country when we strived for equality for women and racial minorities we went over the mark and gave them extra privledges. its idiotic to even suggest they shouldnt go to jail, men are fathers, who to say men cant be as good a parent as a women.
If i were to suggest women dont make as good soldiers, or politicians or policemen ect as men and men shouldnt have to go to jail because they perform these vital roles better then i would be called sexist.
the suicide rate is irrelevant, if they commit the crime then they should accept the consequences regardless of sex or commitments!!

Every criminal should be punished. Be it locked up or whatever. Being a mother is ever the more reason for her not to participate in criminal activities. Where is the responsibility towards her children and family while she is committing the crime? Why do the honest citizens have to take responsibility and guilt for something they have done? Lock them all up, I say.

Yeah if you lock up men for an offense then its not fair to show compassion to women for doing the same thing.

are u going to generalize ur petty statistics to ALL women?? u still have the 25% of women who DONT commit misdemenors, 40% prisoners... btw ur statistics seem like bs to me. did u make it up? imagine if you were going to be locked up just because u fall under a generalization when u didnt even do nething!

if you can't do the time don't do the crime.
I do kind of get tired of women thinking they should get preferential treatment just because of their sex.
If someone was to say 'Should men be in jail' it would not even be taken seriously, as who cares about men?
