As Paul T said, the original bulb was probably red in colour, so to get the original effect you will need to fit a sheet of red gelatine as used for stage lights between the bulb and the artificial coal, but not too near the bulb. The main disadvantage if the fire has a fan over the bulb which simulates a moving flame, thise is unlikely to rotate as the fan is turned by a convective current of air rising off the hot bulb. Low energy bulbs give off far less heat which is one reason why they consume less energy, so it is unlikely that you will retain the moving flame effect. No harm in trying it though and the bulb can always be used elsewhere if thye results are dissapointing.
