I also had side effects on Ortho-Lo. I had good luck switching to Mircette, which has a very low estrogen component (even lower than ortho-lo). Also, Mircette only has three days of placebo pills before it starts in again at a low dose hormone. This can help with the up and down effects of the hormones. You can use it like seasonale to skip periods too if you want. (you can do this with any birth control pill that is monophasic--ie all the dosages are the same--ie all the pills except the last week are the same color.

Other options like people have mentioned are the Nuva-ring, which gets inserted in your vagina and ignored for 3 weeks (you can also use this continuously to skip periods). Also, there's the patch, which is changed weekly (once again, skipping periods is an option here). If you are monogamous, and pretty sure you're not interested in kids anytime soon, the IUD is a great option that you just insert and forget about. People like the IUD and the ring because the hormones are just secreted locally and you don't get the whole-body side effects like you do with the pill or the patch.

Depo-Provera is another option, but people do tend to gain weight with that one, so if that's already a side effect you're concerned about, I would skip it.

Go talk to your GYN, because there are LOTS of options out there.

forget the pill!! I discovered the best birth control method ever!! It's a little weird at first but once you get the hang of it - well it's FANTASTIC. It's called 'Nuva Ring'. Like the name says, it's a ring, small, made of a certain kind of plastic and you put it in for 3weeks (pro#1-never have to remember to take a pill everyday!) and remove for one week then repeat. It regulates your cycle and reduces the amount you actually bleed. As far as side effects are concerned, it's different for everyone but I haven't had any (I know, I know - hard to believe but it's true!) I guess maybe the only problem I had was getting used to the idea of putting it in and taking it out, it was easy enough though and I think it's GREAT! Strongly recommend!
I see some people are suggesting the patch - I would not! I've heard some pretty bad stories about that including blood clotting (your leg and heart). There are commercials on tv about it being ineffective so be careful and talk to your doctor about switching to a different form of BC, get informed as much as possible.

I heard if you take a penny and hold it between your knees, and never let it fall you shouldn't get pregnant. ~old joke.

You've tried a couple of the best, if the Ortho Tri-cyclene didn't work I don't know what is low hormonal like that.
You just need to either stop having sex, or control your eating habits. Self control is what this is about.
You could try the depo shot, or the patch. Those are your last options.

Well there's one other....

IUD. this is a very, very good solution.

If you tried ortho triclyclen low and still experienced heavy side effects, then this sort of hormone therapy might not be for you. That is supposed to have the lowest dosage of hormones available, and if you're easily affected by that, then you're body might just be too sensitive to handle outside hormones.
Talk with your doctor and see what s/he recommends.

I took Yasmin for a year, and I didnt have any side effects at all, and my periods had been much lighter, and barely any cramps. So I would suggest using Yasmin, but It might now work as great for everyone, because every woman is different. Talk to your doctor, and they'll know the best pill for you.

To figure that out, you need to sit down and talk with your doctor. Unfortunately finding the right birth control is often trial and error.
Not everyone reacts the same way to the same birth control. That's why there are so many different kinds.

There is no best pill with least side effects. They all have side effects as they are homonal birth control. Your best bet is to talk to your doctor about this and he can advise if he thinks there is another pill that might work for you.

I liked the Nuvaring, cause I didn't have to remember to take it the same time everyday. You just put it in and forget about it for 3 weeks. If I had to go back on BC, that would be my choice.

Talk to your ob/gyn about this, they know more about birth control. They did go to college for a reason you know!
