What makes you think people do? I don't find lonely people any of the above. And whats a definition of 'lonely'? I like being alone, I like my own space but i also like being with my family and friends. Theres a balance in everything. I have no doubt that some lonely people are selfish, pitiful and abnormal or one of each. Its just the way it is. Some people with lots of friends are no doubt selfish, pitiful and abnormal as well.

I don't.I'm a loner,I guess. I have no close friends, just pen pals.I take care of my home, husband, my son with autism and my animals.I do not go out much, only to drive in movie, which is perfect for me,cause,I can take my dog, snacks and be comfortable in my car.I'm a part of no group or church, but am a christian, and that is possible.I live in the country away from all the crowd and noise.

My intention is not to offend you or criticise you. rather offer a liitle constructive criticism.

I feel your analysis lies within your perception of loneliness, or a stance engendered by your social background. Or, perhaps you yourself are lonely?

Be objective and perhaps do a web search of singular people. To be insular, it seems to me is no more than a personal choice and does not neccessarily subscribe to the criteria you describe above.

As humans we are a complicated and multi faceted race. To compartmentalise and castigate one particular human trait, is, it seems to me, to engender what in days gone by can be likened to a "Witch Hunt" . There is no place for ignorance in todays' (alleged) enlightened society.

Why? Because empirically ignorance can result in despicable acts of violence, terror and mob hysteria.

As a civilised society we must ... must be more tolerant of others and examine our own predujices far more closely.

why do you think they are lonely? Look at your question. The real question is how to bring them back to life without dragging yourself down to their level.
